Been Busy!

So…..not blogged for a little while, I do apologise. Quite busy with my other businesses including www.tishtashtoys.com but thrilled to say that selling well at Fountain Antiques in Honiton. I think I’ve sold most of the items listed on the blogs below and making a little profit each month. Decided I loved the Arthur Wilkinson jug far too much so have kept that for myself. Just couldn’t part with it.

Here’s another gorgeous piece (above) that I can’t part with – picked it up recently at the Lyme Bay Auction house in Seaton, Devon. It’s quite heavy glass, very retro, swirly, just lovely. Leave me a comment to say whether you like it…or not!

Bought my very first piece of Clarice Cliff a couple of months ago, pictured below. I’ve been enjoying this 1930’s My Garden piece on my dresser shelves for a few weeks but it’s gone off to Fountain today to be sold (hopefully!). It’s priced at £125. Email me at sdpavey@googlemail.com if you are interested in buying it, I can courier it to you.

And finally – had a lot of fun at the Matford Antiques Fair at Exeter Cattle Market in Marsh Barton (below) in September.

Went with my little girl Natasha and my mother in law Sue and picked up a few treasures like this gorgeous Crown Devon jar below – which sold very quickly in Fountain Antiques. Isn’t it beautiful.

Picked up a wooden love spoon too – so pretty, which was given to a good friend of mine who got married in September.

Found a lovely Poole pottery vase at Matford, irridescent red, just lovely, that’s sold at Fountain too, someone else must have liked it as much as me!

Hoping to make it to Westpoint this weekend to the Devon County Antiques Fair. Will let you know if I find time to get over there. Check out their website if you are interested http://www.antiques-fairs.com/

Rousdon Car Boot Sale in Devon

Had an early start this morning as I went to Rousdon car boot sale near Axminster in Devon. Got up about 6am and left at 7.30 to cycle the ten miles from my home near Stockland to the boot fair on Trinity Hill Road near the village of Combpyne. There are signs to the boot fair from Seaton to Lyme Regis on the A3052 and on the A35 as you travel from Axminster to Lyme Regis. If you are driving the venue is about ten minutes from Seaton, Axminster or Lyme Regis, allow 30 minutes if going by car from Chard, Honiton, Sidmouth or Bridport.

It took me nearly two hours to cycle there and I arrived at about 9.20am. It was a lovely Sunday morning bike ride though which took me through Kilmington, Whitford and Musbury. Climbing Mounthill Lane – the relentlessly long and steep hill after Musbury was an absolute killer, but I ploughed on as had heard that Rousdon was a great place to find some treasure for my new antiques and collectables business Bonne Vintage.

I wasn’t disappointed as when I got there, the stewards were very professional and friendly and it was a pretty big affair. Took me about 2 hours to get round all the stalls, which were a real mixture of second hand stuff, fruit and veg, eggs, some new stuff and lots of choice for me to add to my stock for the two places I sell antiques. I have a Bonne Vintage shop on Etsy and I also started selling last week at a local antiques centre – Fountain Antiques in Honiton, Devon.

If you are passing through Honiton, pop into Fountain Antiques and spend some time exploring the cornucopia of items from the thirty or so sellers displaying their wares in this lovely old shop.

There is one more item I picked up which I need to research first. The chap I bought this colourful retro vase from below told me he was just visiting from Germany and had over 7000 items in his collection. He has a lovely display of what he said were Silberdistel items.

First Sales at Fountain Antiques
August 15, 2009 | Filed in: Blog

Popped into Fountain Antiques in Honiton yesterday, to add some more items to the shelves I’m renting to display and sell my collection of antiques, collectables and vintage homewares. Didn’t expect to have sold already but in less than two days I’d sold two items – a blue and white plate and the silver grey arts and crafts pewter covered cigar box below.

I was surprised as didn’t expect to have made my first sales so quickly, really pleased and off treasure hunting again this weekend to a local boot sale. I’m glad I took some new things to add to my shelves as there were a couple of spaces, so it’s looking better now, but still not full enough – see below:

I think the bottom three shelves look ok but there’s room for improvement at the top. The owners kindly offered me some space in one of the glass cabinets for my jewellery, including a gorgeous vintage diamante necklace, a diamante brooch, a very pretty millefiore brooch and a delft tile brooch. The halogen lighting really sets them off, so fingers crossed someone notices them and wants to give them a good new home!

Really looking forward to tomorrow, as I’m off to The Fountain Antiques Centre in Honiton, Devon to display my beautiful vintage trinkets! I’ve rented 6 shelves and will be one of the 30 or so sellers in this fabulous aladdins cave of an antique shop at the bottom of town. I’m taking a selection of products including the gorgeous floral cake stand (above) and the pretty glass bottle with cut glass stopper (below):

I absolutely adore these delicate little flower patterned side plates. The little roses are beautiful and the set of six plates would look fabulous on a dresser or sideboard.

I’ve got a few pieces of vintage jewellery including these smart clip on earrings below. If you are interested in purchasing these items – just email me sdpavey@googlemail.co.uk

Exeter Racecourse Car Boot Sale
August 10, 2009 | Filed in: Blog

Mananged to get over to Haldon Hill yesterday to the popular weekly boot sale at the racecourse. It takes place every Sunday and buyers can go in from 1pm – 4pm. We sold there once and I think sellers set up from 11am. We did very well when we sold making over £300 from old CD’s, kids stuff and other bits and pieces we no longer needed.

As a buyer yesterday, I wasn’t too impressed. Perhaps because the kids are off school, there seemed a lot of parents with bucket loads of kids stuff, old toys, clothes etc….and I was on the lookout for some lovely vintage delights! After a bit of hunting about in the blazingly hot sunshine I found some interesting things.

I bought three things from one guy who had lots of old-fashioned metalware. I got some lovely old cream kitchen scales with weights, a lamp and a little orange glass bottle with stopper. A huge white chamber pot was my next find, and the woman asked me for a ridiculously low amount for it, so of course I grabbed it before anyone else overheard, stepped forward and nabbed it off me! Then after rustling through some world war one and two things like binoculars and helmets, I found a nice white and blue enamel bowl and a large Cornishware style blue and white jug which just needed a spit and polish!

Couldn’t really find any other treasures amongst the plastic children’s toys, televisions, books clothing and music, so trundled around a bit more until I came across my dream stall…vintage jewellery. This lady had collected allsorts and had everything beautifully displayed. There were gazillions of brooches from every era but I was particularly drawn to the Victorian and Edwardian brooches. After some umm-ing and ahh-ing I invested in a dazzling diamante piece, a pretty millefiori brooch and an unusual pin brooch made from a delft tile in the pattern of a flower. Got a discount for getting all three and finding the brooches made my day, they are all gorgeous.

Antique Blue & White Art Nouveau Jug

This is such an beautiful jug, I’m not 100% sure I should be selling it really! It’s absolutely adorable. Everyone who sees it in my home comments on how attractive it is.

It’s an Arthur Wilkinson Blue & White jug from the Royal Staffordshire potteries. The stamp on the bottom dates it to 1907. The delicate poppy Art Nouveau style pattern is called “Irene”.

There is a very small chip on the base, below the handle, and one inside the rim but it is in pretty good condition as it’s over 100 years old. The piece is 7 1/4″ high. It’s available to buy over on my etsy page – see www.Bonnevintage.etsy.com

As with all products on etsy – it’s priced in U.S. Dollars, at $60 which is about £36 (English pounds).

Fountain Antiques in Honiton welcomes Bonne Vintage!
August 6, 2009 | Filed in: Blog

Went into one of my favourite antique shops in my local town Honiton, Devon yesterday, and saw they had a few shelves to rent. After chatting to the lovely Caroline Bushell who runs this bustling 30 year old centre along with Ann and Phil Barton, I decided to go for it and rent the shelves.

Really excited about being able to show off (and hopefully sell) some of my growing collection in town. Apparently Fountain Antiques has an excellent customer base including celebs like Kirstie Allsopp – who has bought bits and pieces for her latest series Kirstie’s Homemade Homes. They have lots of tourists visiting the shop in the summer and regular clients and local traders all year round. There are thirty different sellers displaying their wares in the store, and there really is something for everyone. From furniture to housewares and retro kitchenalia, vintage pottery, antique jewellery and linens to beautiful art work, woodenware, tools and garden equipment.

I’m off to Exeter boot sale on Sunday to top up my stock and hopefully find some oldy worldy treasures to grace the shelves of The Fountain Antique Centre. Will blog again on the treasures I unearth and must remember to take a photo of the finished shelves in the centre to show you all…wish me luck!
